According to a survey by the National Defense Planning Council, just 39% of respondents think the United States would be prepared to defend Finland or other European allies in accordance with NATO commitments if war were to break out.
Only about one in two men and fewer than one in three women expressed confidence in American support.
Strong U.S. Support Among Women
While overall confidence is low, the data show that a higher proportion of women than men trust U.S. military assistance, though still below one-third.
High Support for NATO Membership
Support for Finland’s NATO membership remains high, with 85% of respondents endorsing continued membership.
Sixty‑one percent endorse increasing defense spending, and half want financial aid to Ukraine to stay at current levels.
Survey Methodology and Demographics
The survey was conducted in September and October 2023 and included nearly 1,100 participants aged 15 and older.
