Further Arrests Made in RARS Coal Procurement Case

Polish authorities have made further arrests related to the 2022-2023 purchase of low-quality coal by the Government Agency for Strategic Reserves (RARS).

New Arrests in RARS Coal Case

Further arrests have been made in connection with the procurement of the lowest quality coal between 2022-2023 during the government of Mateusz Morawiecki by the Government Agency for Strategic Reserves (RARS), announced Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for the Minister Coordinating Special Services, on Thursday.

Details of the Arrests

Three individuals were detained in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship. These include a former RARS employee and two representatives from a coal industry company.

Charges Filed

The National Prosecutor’s Office stated that the detainees face charges of participation in an organized criminal group, abuse of power, and failure to fulfill duties.

One of the men also faces an additional charge related to promising a financial benefit to a public official employed by RARS in exchange for violating the law.

Financial Impact

Dobrzyński stated that the actions resulted in significant damage to the public interest and the Government Agency for Strategic Reserves, estimated at at least 530 million złoty.
