As of April 18, 2026, over 13.4 million Polish income tax declarations for 2025 have been submitted, with roughly half of taxpayers still awaiting filing.
Over Half of Returns Filed, Deadline Approaching
As of April 18, 2026, over 13.4 million PIT (personal income tax) declarations for the 2025 tax year have been filed, a figure comparable to the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Finance.
This suggests that approximately 46% of taxpayers have yet to submit their returns.
Total Declarations Filed Last Year
Last year’s tax filing season saw around 24.8 million declarations submitted in total (23.6 million electronically and 1.2 million on paper). However, approximately 6 million of these were automatically accepted through the “Twój e-PIT” service by April 30, 2025.
Delaying Filing Means Delayed Refunds
Tax advisors note that many taxpayers delay filing due to waiting for complete data or simply procrastinating. This can be detrimental, as it delays any potential tax refunds.
Monika Piątkowska, a tax advisor, emphasizes the importance of timely filing to allow for thorough review of regulations, verification of interpretations, and proper claiming of deductions.
Automatic Acceptance in Twój e-PIT
Taxpayers have until April 30, 2026, to verify, modify, or approve their tax returns within the “Twój e-PIT” service, or submit them through other electronic or paper-based methods.
If a taxpayer does not independently file PIT-37 and PIT-38 declarations, along with the PIT-OP statement for 2025, they will be automatically accepted after April 30, 2026, ensuring timely filing even without action from the taxpayer.
Automatic Acceptance Does Not Apply to Businesses
Automatic acceptance does not extend to declarations filed by businesses (PIT-36, PIT-36L, PIT-28) or individuals using PIT-28 or PIT-36 who have income from sources like private rentals or foreign earnings.
