In Brzezie, Poland, a 70-year-old hunter, Mirosław S., shot and killed his two Polish lowland sheepdogs, claiming they had become unmanageable and aggressive.
Dogs Shot After Becoming ‘Feral’
On November 22, 2025, a driver in Brzezie, Człuchów County, Poland, discovered the bodies of two dogs in a pond on a fenced property. Police were notified and determined the dogs belonged to Mirosław S., a 70-year-old resident of a neighboring county.
The dogs were shot two days prior with a shotgun.
Owner Admits to Killing Dogs
Prosecutors in Słupsk announced on April 8th that an indictment has been filed against the man in the Człuchów Regional Court. He faces up to three years in prison for killing the animals.
Justification and Remorse
During the investigation, Mirosław S. confessed to the crime, stating the dogs had “feralized,” escaped the property, were disobedient, and had become aggressive. He feared they might attack someone and claimed he regretted his actions, initially believing he was doing the right thing.
Disposal of Bodies and Legal Ownership of Firearms
The 70-year-old disposed of the dog carcasses in the pond because he “didn’t have the strength to bury them.” He expressed willingness to accept voluntary punishment. Mirosław S. is a licensed hunter and legally possessed a rifle and shotgun, along with over 100 pieces of ammunition, which were secured at his residence. He has no prior criminal record.
