Poland’s Institute of Meteorology and Water Management reports that temperatures will drop nationwide this winter, raising the possibility of snow on Christmas Eve and into New Year’s, according to forecaster Agnieszka Prasek.
Will there be snow on the holidays?
Forecaster Agnieszka Prasek of the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management told RMF24 that the country will experience a cooling trend in the coming days. Daytime temperatures across the country are expected to hover around 3 to 4 °C, indicating the approach of Arctic air masses.
She added that on Christmas Eve, precipitation is expected locally in the south and central regions, but currently it will be a mix of snow and rain.
What is the weather on New Year’s Eve?
According to forecasters, a slightly stronger return of winter is expected in late December. Snowfall and the arrival of even colder air masses are anticipated closer to year’s end, i.e., on New Year’s Eve. Temperatures are expected to fall, potentially dropping to zero and below during the day.
More intense snowfall is forecasted in southern, eastern, and central Poland, while in the western part of the country chances of snow are considered very low.
Weather for the coming days
On Wednesday, regional temperatures will vary widely: around 4 °C in the north, about 7 °C in the centre, and up to 11 °C in the south. Winds will be light to moderate, strongest in sub‑mountain areas at up to 60 km/h.
Thursday will bring sunny conditions in the south and increased cloudiness in the north, with little likelihood of rainfall. Maximum temperatures will range from 1–3 °C in the northeast, around 5 °C in the centre, 7–8 °C in the south and south‑west, and up to 10–11 °C in Podkarpacie. Winds will be light, occasionally gusting, especially in Podkarpacie and from the south‑west.
Friday’s weather is expected to mirror Thursday’s pattern, with temperatures from 3–5 °C in the northeast, 7 °C in the centre, and up to 11 °C in the south and west.
