During Warsaw’s 107th‑anniversary Independence Day parade on November 11, MPs Marcin Kierwiński and Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz were booed and whistled at, prompting a terse response from the interior minister.
Marcin Kierwiński on the Crowd Reaction
Minister of the Interior and Administration Marcin Kierwiński posted on social media that the aggressive reactions of the crowd during the independence celebrations reflected only that he is doing his job well. He thanked the supporters and promised more.
Karolina Gałecka, the ministry’s spokesperson, criticized the event, asking whether patriotism involves cheering when officers receive top decorations. She described the protest as a division even on a national holiday.
Jeering Amid 11 November Observances
During the ceremony in Warsaw, which honored generals and admirals, the names of Kosiniak‑Kamysz and Kierwiński were read while the audience whistled, clapped and shouted, expressing discontent.
After the commander of the Armed Forces stepped onto the podium, the crowd again cheered, prompting the minister to comment that the uproar “does not give freedom” and likened the situation to a prayer at Częstochowa after Gietrzwałd.
Independence Day Celebrations
The 107th anniversary featured parades, marches and concerts across Poland, with the main events held in Warsaw. State officials, led by the president, laid wreaths at monuments of independence founders such as W. Witosa, I. J. Paderewski, I. Daszyński, R. Dmowski, W. Korfantej and J. Piłsudski.
The presidential couple and the Armed Forces chief attended a Mass at the Sanctuary of Boża Opatrzność, followed by state honors at the Presidential Palace and a funeral parade before the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
