A Warsaw resident discovered an injured buzzard, which allowed municipal Eco-Patrol guards to transport it to a wildlife sanctuary.
Discovery and Rescue
A resident of Targówek noticed a wild bird in need of help. He took care of it and called the Eco-Patrol of the municipal guard.
A female officer and a guard from the Eco-Patrol of the municipal guard on Thursday, January 8, received an order from the duty officer to go to Radzymin Street. The caller asked for help for an injured bird he found in his field.
Bird’s Behavior
Upon arriving at the scene, it turned out that it wasn’t just any bird that needed help, but an impressive buzzard. The predator found in the field had a damaged wing and couldn’t fly.
Although wild animals are usually shy and flee at the sight of humans, the buzzard apparently realized it couldn’t manage without the help of the Eco-Patrol. With stoic calm, it allowed the guards to place it in a transporter, in which it was safely transported to the Bird Sanctuary on the grounds of the Warsaw Zoo.
Species Information
A common buzzard (Buteo buteo) is a species of large predatory bird from the hawk family. In Poland, it is quite common and is under strict species protection.
