A high-ranking Iranian official warned that Iran and its allies may block crucial waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab, if the situation escalates.
Iran Warns of Strait Blockades
Iran has threatened to block key waterways, warning that the region will “plunge into darkness” if the situation escalates. A high-ranking Iranian official told Reuters that allies of Iran would also block the Bab al-Mandab Strait, connecting the Arabian Sea with the Red Sea.
The official stated Iran will not open the Strait of Hormuz under pressure from U.S. demands.
No Negotiations with the U.S.
According to Reuters, no negotiations are currently underway with the United States, which seeks Iran’s submission to pressure. Washington allegedly demands the opening of the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for what the official described as “empty promises.”
Threats Against U.S. Assets and Regional Stability
The Reuters source warned that if the United States attacks Iranian power plants, “the entire region and Saudi Arabia will plunge into complete darkness.”
Strategic Importance of Bab al-Mandab
The Bab al-Mandab Strait connects the Arabian Sea to the Red Sea, serving as a vital shipping lane from Asia through the Suez Canal to Europe. Traffic on this route has been restricted for several years due to attacks by Houthi rebels allied with Tehran.
