Poland’s National Revenue Administration (KAS) seized 3.84 million tax-stamp-free cigarettes from two shipments originating in Dubai.
The Discovery
Officers from the Mazovia Customs and Tax Office (MUCS) in Warsaw inspected two shipments at an airport warehouse. The first, declared as containing packing foil and cleaning liquid, was found to hold 1.92 million cigarettes without Polish tax stamps.
The second shipment also contained 1.92 million cigarettes without the required tax stamps, bringing the total to 3.84 million.
The Seizure and Value
The confiscated cigarettes, valued at nearly 4 million Polish złoty, have been secured in a MUCS warehouse in Warsaw.
Legal Consequences
Smuggling large quantities of tobacco products in Poland can result in a fine of up to 720 daily rates and/or imprisonment for up to two years.
The investigation into both cases is being handled by the MUCS’s Investigative Department in Warsaw.
