Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz confirmed on Friday that there have been no decisions to scale back American military forces stationed within Polish territory.
Government Response to Pentagon Reports
Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz addressed concerns following reports from Reuters and CNN, which suggested the Pentagon had canceled the rotation of 4,000 U.S. soldiers to Poland. These reports linked the move to a broader strategy by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to reduce U.S. force levels in Europe, including the withdrawal of 5,000 troops from Germany.
The Minister dismissed these claims, asserting that the alliance between Poland and the U.S. remains robust. He explained that any temporary pauses in unit rotations are purely tactical adjustments intended to swap one brigade for another, rather than a reduction in overall force presence.
Key Pillars of U.S. Military Presence
To highlight the permanence of the alliance, the Minister cited critical infrastructure including the V Corps Forward Command in Poznań, the division headquarters in Bolesławiec, and logistics bases in Wrocław. He also referenced stored equipment in Powidz, air bases in Łask, the Orzysz battalion group, and the Aegis Ashore missile defense site in Redzikowo as enduring symbols of American commitment.
Strategic Alignment and Future Outlook
Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that Poland remains in constant contact with U.S. command regarding rotations that do not alter national defense strategy. He noted that Poland is unique among European partners for co-financing the presence of U.S. troops, contributing approximately 15,000 dollars per soldier.
Reflecting on recent discussions, the Minister pointed to assurances from President Donald Trump, who recently indicated a willingness to discuss increasing, rather than decreasing, the American presence in Poland should the opportunity arise. Military leadership remains in active dialogue to ensure Poland retains its status as a stable and loyal ally.
