A rotten oak tree fell onto two parked vehicles at the intersection of Aleje Jerozolimskie and Krucza Street in Warsaw on May 15, following a sudden, powerful gust of wind.
The Incident and Emergency Response
The incident occurred around 1:00 PM when a strong southerly wind caused an oak tree to snap at its base, crushing a Fiat and a Range Rover parked nearby. Firefighters and police were dispatched to the scene immediately.
Emergency crews secured the area and utilized specialized equipment to cut the tree into smaller segments for removal. Police officers conducted a formal inspection of the site to document the resulting vehicle damage.
Vehicle Damage and Safety Assessment
The Fiat sustained significant damage, while the Range Rover suffered primarily from paint scratches; fortunately, no individuals were injured during the collapse. Inspections revealed that the tree, despite having a green crown, was completely rotten at its base.
Because the tree was under the jurisdiction of the City Greenery Board, affected vehicle owners must pursue compensation claims through the municipal authority. The event has prompted fresh scrutiny regarding the safety and maintenance protocols for trees located along busy metropolitan thoroughfares.
