Lawyer Known for ‘Coffin on Wheels’ Remark Wanted on Warrant

Polish authorities are searching for lawyer Paweł Kozanecki, convicted in a fatal car crash and known for controversial remarks about the victims’ vehicle.

Lawyer Sought on Arrest Warrant

Police are searching for Paweł Kozanecki, who is subject to an arrest warrant. The lawyer, known for a controversial statement about “coffins on wheels,” received a final sentence of one and a half years in prison in March.

He was convicted of causing a traffic accident that resulted in the deaths of two people.

Details of the Case

According to a statement by Łódź City Police spokesperson, subcomm. Kamila Sowińska, the arrest warrant was issued for Kozanecki. The search is being conducted by the III Police Commissariat in Łódź.

Charges and Legal Basis for Warrant

The police website lists Kozanecki as wanted under Article 177, paragraph 2, which covers causing death or serious bodily harm through negligent violation of traffic safety regulations.

Sentence and Prior Ruling

Paweł Kozanecki was definitively convicted on March 5th for causing an accident that killed two women. The Regional Court in Olsztyn reduced the sentence from the first instance ruling (two years imprisonment and a five-year driving ban in April 2025) to one and a half years imprisonment and a four-year driving ban.

The Accident Itself

The accident occurred in September 2021 on the Barczewo – Jeziorany road. The prosecutor’s office alleges that the Łódź lawyer, driving a Mercedes, collided head-on with an Audi 80, resulting in the deaths of the Audi’s driver and passenger.

Controversial Statement Following the Accident

The fatal accident near Barczewo gained public attention when Kozanecki shortly after recorded and published a video online. In the video, he stated the accident was a confrontation between a safe car and a “coffin on wheels,” implying that was why the women died, a statement that sparked public outrage.
