Poland’s Left coalition is firmly backing Climate and Environment Minister Paulina Hennig-Kloska as a recall motion heads for a parliamentary vote on April 30th.
Left Coalition Stands Firmly Behind Hennig-Kloska
The Left coalition is demonstrating unwavering support for Minister Paulina Hennig-Kloska, pledging to defend ministers within the government they co-create, according to Sejm Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty.
Czarzasty stated that the Left views itself as a loyal partner in the government and will take responsibility for its ministers.
Recall Motion to be Debated This Week
A recall motion against Hennig-Kloska, signed by approximately 100 lawmakers from Konfederacja and PiS, was submitted to the Sejm in late March.
Parliamentary rules dictate that the motion must be addressed during the session scheduled for April 28-30, and Czarzasty confirmed it is on the agenda for Thursday, April 30th.
Allegations Against the Minister
The recall motion cites concerns including a perceived lack of action to mitigate the negative impacts of EU climate policy on Poland, particularly regarding the ETS system, and alleged chaos surrounding the “Clean Air” program.
Further accusations include negligence in preparing the energy and wood sectors for pellet availability during the 2025/26 heating season, and claims of “sabotaging the state” by prioritizing renewable energy sources.
Investigation of Potential Irregularities
Regarding reports of potential irregularities surrounding the “Clean Air” program, Czarzasty emphasized that any concerns should be investigated by the prosecutor’s office and courts.
He added that if any individuals are found to be culpable, they should be held accountable.
Political Motivation Behind the Motion
Czarzasty characterized the recall motion as primarily “political,” asserting that the Left remains a loyal partner to a government that is addressing many issues aligned with the Left’s agenda.
He reiterated the coalition’s commitment to taking responsibility for the government’s ministers and defending them accordingly.
