Polish airline LOT is bolstering connections from regional airports, adding three new routes from Gdańsk and resuming flights to San Francisco.
LOT Grows at Regional Airports
Unable to expand further at the congested Warsaw Chopin Airport, LOT is increasingly focusing on connections from regional ports. The airline has recently expanded its network from Gdańsk.
On Wednesday, LOT launched connections from Gdańsk to Oslo and Brussels, with a service to Bergen following on Thursday. LOT spokesperson Krzysztof Moczulski noted that the flights to Norway were largely created with the large Polish diaspora in Norway in mind, while tourism to Norway is also growing. Meanwhile, Norwegians are increasingly visiting Poland. Flights to Brussels cater to both tourism and business travelers, including members of the European Parliament and EU officials.
More Flights to Warsaw and Beyond
LOT has also increased the number of daily flights between Gdańsk and Warsaw from four to five. Direct flights from Gdańsk to Istanbul were launched in winter. LOT is currently in talks with Turkish Airlines to offer onward connections from Istanbul to destinations worldwide on a single ticket through a code-share agreement. Passengers can already fly from Gdańsk to five international destinations with LOT. The national carrier has also significantly expanded its network from Kraków, launching services to Barcelona, Rome, and Madrid on March 30th, offering a total of 10 routes from the capital of Małopolska.
The airline plans to continue developing its network from regional airports, but has not yet revealed specific details.
New Transatlantic Route to San Francisco
On May 6th, LOT will launch its first connection to the United States after a several-year hiatus, with flights to San Francisco. The service will operate four times a week – Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays – using Dreamliner aircraft, with a flight time of approximately 11–13 hours.
