Driver Faces Multiple Charges
Police have arrested a 57-year-old man and charged him with driving under the influence, reckless driving, and 18 counts of first-degree negligent injury. He is also suspected of possessing an open container of alcohol in his vehicle.

Preliminary police investigation suggests the driver’s actions were not intentional, according to Sheriff’s Office representative Rebecca Melancon, as reported by CNN. The driver’s blood alcohol content was 0.137%, exceeding the legal limit of 0.08% in most U.S. states.
Witness Accounts Describe Sudden Acceleration
Witnesses reported the vehicle initially approached the parade slowly, appearing to join the procession, before suddenly accelerating and hitting people. One witness stated, “Everything happened in one moment,” with victims thrown aside by the force of the impact. Some of those injured were riding in a golf cart.
