President Lukashenka has initiated a comprehensive, multi-stage inspection of Belarusian military forces with personal involvement.
Unannounced Military Inspection Ordered by President
At the President’s command, a large-scale inspection of the Armed Forces has begun. The inspection will be comprehensive and conducted in several stages with an unannounced character, stated Alexander Volfovich, Secretary of State of the Security Council.
The inspection plan has been approved by the president, who said he would personally participate but will determine which units and when they will be involved. The inspection will examine issues including the protection of military units and countering modern means, particularly unmanned aerial vehicles.
Russia Deploys Oriesznik Missile System in Belarus
In late December, Russia’s Ministry of Defense first presented the mobile ground-based Oriesznik missile system, stating it has entered combat service in Belarus. The ministry added that all necessary conditions for combat duty and accommodation of Russian soldiers have been created on Belarusian territory in advance.
Belarus as Key Russian Ally
Belarus is a key ally of Russia, as Moscow used its territory to launch its offensive against Ukraine in February 2022. In August, Minsk announced it would practice deploying “Oriesznik” missiles during joint Zapad-2025 exercises near the eastern border of the EU and NATO.
German Arrow System Activated Near Polish Border
In early December, the German Arrow system was activated in Holzdorf, near the Polish border. It enables the interception of enemy missiles at altitudes exceeding 100 km.
