Major Fire at FAM S.A. Facility in Oborniki; Residents Urged to Close Windows

A large-scale fire broke out at the FAM S.A. steel corrosion protection plant in Oborniki shortly after 2:00 PM, prompting a massive emergency response and safety alerts for local residents.

Emergency response at the site

Forty units from the State Fire Service and Volunteer Fire Department are currently battling the blaze. Firefighters and the Government Security Centre have issued urgent warnings for residents in the Poznań and Oborniki counties to keep windows closed and avoid the area due to dense, black smoke visible from a significant distance.

Chemical hazard assessment

A chemical response unit from Poznań is en route to the scene. Authorities confirmed that the facility houses tanks containing sulfuric acid, though there is currently no reported chemical threat to the local population.

Operational impact and facility safety

The fire is currently contained within a single hall, though the risk of spread remains. All employees successfully evacuated the facility before emergency services arrived, and no casualties have been reported. FAM S.A. specializes in hot-dip galvanizing and operates five locations across Poland, including the Oborniki plant.
