Two men aged 24 and 28 were arrested for attempting robbery with a dangerous weapon after scamming phones worth over 18,000 zł.
The Arrest
Officers from the Warsaw II Regional Police Command once again confirmed their effectiveness and professionalism. Thanks to intensive operational work and rapid information exchange, they arrested two men, aged 24 and 28, in Białystok on suspicion of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon. For this crime, they face up to 20 years in prison.
The Incident
The incident occurred in Mokotow. The victim had posted several mobile phones on a classifieds website. Interested buyers contacted him by phone and arranged a meeting near Puławska Street. During the meeting, the suspects claimed to want to purchase multiple devices, offering payment by bank transfer. They showed the victim confirmations of transactions that, as it turned out, did not reflect actual bank operations. In this way, they obtained several phones with a total value of over 18,000 zł. When the victim realized the funds had not been deposited and demanded the phones back, one of the men threatened him with a knife. The 20-year-old managed to leave the scene and notify the police.
Police Investigation
Immediately after receiving the report, the case was taken up by officers from the Criminal Department and the Department for Combating Crimes Against Life and Health of the Mokotow command. Police analyzed the secured materials, identified the suspects and their possible whereabouts. Thorough operational work, effective profiling and coordination of actions led officers to Białystok.
Apprehension
The very next day after the report, police located and arrested both men on one of the city streets. The decisive actions by officers prevented them from further hiding and potentially committing more crimes.
Legal Proceedings
The arrested men were taken to the Mokotow police station. The evidence gathered by police allowed them to be charged with attempted robbery using a dangerous weapon. By a prosecutor’s decision, they were placed under police supervision. For the committed crime, they could face a sentence of 3 to 20 years in prison.
Case Supervision
The proceedings in this case are supervised by the Regional Prosecutor’s Office Warsaw-Mokotow in Warsaw.
