Mieszko R. Sent Back to Jail, Suspected of Macabre Murder at Warsaw University

The 22‑year‑old Mieszko R. has been taken back to custody after police arrested him for the May 7 murder and desecration of a 53‑year‑old university employee’s body on the Warsaw University campus.

Murder on Warsaw University Campus

A 22‑year‑old student, Mieszko R., allegedly killed a 53‑year‑old university employee and insulted her corpse on May 7, and attacked a 39‑year‑old campus security guard who tried to stop him. The assailant bit the policeman’s leg while the policeman was being fitted with a safety jacket.

Mieszko R. faces charges of murder, desecration of a corpse, attempted murder, and battery against a police officer.

Psychiatric Observation Concludes

Police‑psychiatric observation at the psychiatric hospital in Jarosław began on 1 September and was initially scheduled for four weeks, later extended by another four weeks. Today the observation ends, and Mieszko R. will be transferred to the Radom Police Center.

Prosecutor Piotr A. Skiba said prosecutors are awaiting a post‑observation psychiatric report to determine whether Mieszko R. is sane enough to face trial.

Investigation Includes Student‑Filmed Evidence

A complaint from a foundation alleged that students filmed the incident but did not report it. This line of inquiry has been merged with the main investigation into Mieszko R., though it is not the focus of the case.

Evidence related to the students is being gathered, prosecutor said a few weeks ago.
