Minimum Wage 2027: The Era of Record Increases Comes to an Abrupt End

New economic data from the Central Statistical Office (GUS) indicates that Poland’s minimum wage in 2027 may rise by a mere 54 PLN, signaling a sharp slowdown after years of aggressive hikes.

The Calculation Behind the 4,860.47 PLN Minimum Wage

Following the publication of the latest data from the Central Statistical Office (GUS), initial calculations suggest the minimum wage in 2027 could rise to only 4,860.47 PLN gross. This represents a symbolic increase of just 54.47 PLN compared to the projected 2026 rates, a figure that may cause significant disappointment among millions of workers.

The primary driver for this calculation was the average gross salary in the first quarter of 2026, which reached 9,562.88 PLN. Because the minimum wage remained above the statutory threshold of 50 percent of the national average, the legal mechanism for more substantial increases was not triggered.

Why the Statutory Hike is Significantly Lower

The mechanism defined in the Act on Minimum Wage dictates that if the lowest national salary exceeds half of the average wage, the calculation no longer includes a portion of the projected GDP growth. Consequently, the 2027 increase is based solely on the inflation index and corrections from previous price forecasts.

This shift marks a turning point after the rapid wage growth witnessed between 2023 and 2025. While previous years saw increases measured in hundreds of zlotys, the current data suggests the most significant period of wage acceleration has concluded.

Government Discretion and Potential Higher Rates

The figure of 4,860.47 PLN gross is the absolute statutory minimum, but the government has the authority to propose a higher rate. Economists, including Łukasz Kozłowski from the Federation of Polish Entrepreneurs, predict the final government proposal could land around 4,927 PLN gross to align with inflation expectations.

The final amount will be negotiated within the Social Dialogue Council, which includes representatives from the government, trade unions, and employer organizations. If no consensus is reached during these consultations, the Council of Ministers will determine the final rate by September 15.

Impact on Net Earnings and Purchasing Power

Under the projected statutory minimum of 4,860.47 PLN gross, an employee on a standard employment contract would receive approximately 3,650–3,700 PLN net. Compared to the 2026 minimum wage, which provides roughly 3,630–3,640 PLN net, the actual increase “in hand” will be negligible.

Economists warn that 2027 may bring the first serious discussion in years regarding the real purchasing power of the minimum wage, as rising costs for services and utilities could easily outpace such a modest salary adjustment.

Economic Consequences for Businesses

For employers, particularly in the trade, gastronomy, and service sectors, the slower pace of minimum wage growth offers a reprieve from mounting labor costs. Small businesses that have struggled with the dynamic hikes of recent years may see this stabilization as a necessary cooling of the labor market.

However, the contrast between macroeconomic indicators and the reality of low-income workers remains sharp. For those earning the national minimum, even small fluctuations in food or housing prices carry more weight than the technical calculations of the statutory mechanism.
