President Karol Nawrocki will travel to Washington on June 14 at the invitation of Donald Trump to attend an MMA event marking the USA’s 250th anniversary and the American president’s 80th birthday.
Kaczyński’s Mixed Reception of the Invite
Jarosław Kaczyński, leader of the Law and Justice party, welcomed the invitation extended to Nawrocki, calling it a positive development for diplomatic relations. However, he expressed strong personal disapproval of MMA as a discipline.
Kaczyński stated that he does not respect MMA, contrasting it with the tradition of boxing. He argued that while he appreciates combat sports rooted in chivalric codes where a fighter does not continue attacking an opponent on the ground, MMA lacks such ethical standards.
Diplomatic Objectives and Official Itinerary
Kaczyński described the trip as a courtesy visit, yet he expects it to strengthen the existing positive relationship between the two leaders. Prime Minister Donald Tusk noted that he has no specific expectations regarding the outcome of this trip.
Marcin Przydacz, head of the Presidential Office of International Policy, confirmed that discussions will cover Polish security, permanent US military bases, and energy cooperation. Nawrocki is also scheduled to present Donald Trump with two gifts, one of a personal nature and the other representing the Polish state.
