Network Law to Go to Senate

Polish Sejm passes Network Law amendment to streamline renewable energy connection processes and eliminate ‘zombie projects’ from grid queue.

Renewable Energy Connection Simplification

On February 27, the Sejm passed the so-called Network Law, an amendment to the energy law aimed at simplifying the process of connecting installations to the grid.

The law addresses “zombie renewable energy projects” – those for which investors obtained connection conditions or signed agreements but ultimately did not implement them, occupying capacity that could be used by others.

Additional Consumer and Grid Operator Requirements

The amendment requires grid operators to publish information about available connection capacity and the status of applications.

It also gives electricity consumers the ability to sign electricity sales contracts with fixed prices for at least one year and increases transparency in billing.

Energy Poverty and Storage Expansion

The law clarifies criteria related to energy poverty and expands the cable pooling mechanism, which is the sharing of connections, to include energy storage facilities.
