A new Senate club, “New Poland-Center,” has been established by former members of Poland 2050, and is actively seeking to recruit Senator Jacek Włosowicz.
New Senate Initiative Emerges
A split occurred in Poland 2050 in mid-February, resulting in the departure of fourteen MPs and three senators – Grzegorz Fedorowicz, Piotr Masłowski, and Jacek Trela. In the Sejm, the Centrum club was formed, while the senators remained within the Third Way Senate club (alongside senators from the PSL).
Reports indicated the possibility of a new political initiative, a collaboration between Centrum and the Nowa Polska party, comprised of former city presidents now serving as senators: Zygmunt Frankiewicz (Gliwice), Wadim Tyszkiwicz (Nowa Sól), and Andrzej Dziuba (Tychy). Decisions regarding this collaboration were made on Wednesday.
Formation of “New Poland-Center” Club
Senators Fedorowicz, Trela, and Masłowski, along with Frankiewicz, Tyszkiewicz, and Dziuba, have established a new Senate club named “New Poland-Center.” Former senator Mirosław Różański, previously associated with Poland 2050, has also joined the club.
“Today, our group of four joined the new project, forming a new Senate club with seven senators,” Senator Fedorowicz stated to Gazeta.pl.
Potential Expansion and Interest in Włosowicz
The new club is open to expansion and specifically interested in collaborating with Senator Jacek Włosowicz.
Włosowicz Described as “Reasonable and Wise”
Jerzy Fedorowicz expressed a desire to cooperate with Senator Jacek Włosowicz, who has distanced himself from Law and Justice (PiS). He stated they welcome senators who share their views and goals in the Senate.
Fedorowicz emphasized Włosowicz’s reasonableness and wisdom, noting his voting record often aligned with the “Senate Pact.” He believes Włosowicz is more aligned with the Centrum club than with the Civic Coalition.
Preliminary Discussions with Włosowicz
While no formal discussions have taken place, Fedorowicz indicated they are giving Włosowicz time to consider joining.
Włosowicz’s Criticism of PiS
Senator Włosowicz’s recent TVN24 interview, in which he described PiS as becoming a “nationalist” party, garnered significant attention. In February, he was the sole senator in his club to support a bill implementing the EU’s SAFE defense program.
Włosowicz’s Political History
Senator Stanisław Karczewski clarified that Włosowicz is not a member of PiS, but belongs to the party’s Senate club. He was previously affiliated with PiS (2002-2011) and later with Solidarna Polska, founded by Zbigniew Ziobro, before being expelled in 2022.
Karczewski indicated that Włosowicz will not be on PiS’s candidate lists following his recent interview.
