Jarosław Kaczyński convened a PiS meeting to address former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki’s establishment of a new association, “Rozwój Plus,” amid internal party concerns.
Morawiecki Launches New Association, Sparks Internal Conflict
Mateusz Morawiecki announced the creation of a new association called “Rozwój Plus.” This initiative has faced criticism within the Law and Justice (PiS) party.
Morawiecki stated the association aims to create additional space for dialogue, exchange of experiences, and initiatives supporting Poland’s social and economic development.
Kaczyński Threatens Exclusion from Electoral Lists
Reports indicate Jarosław Kaczyński initially did not strongly oppose the initiative, but now opposes it. TVN24 reports Kaczyński warned that politicians joining Morawiecki’s association will be excluded from electoral lists.
The “maślarze” (butter-makers) faction is reportedly pushing for this exclusion. A PiS politician questioned the enforceability of such bans, asking what would happen if 40 MPs joined the association.
Factions Within PiS Emerge
The “maślarze” group includes former ministers Przemysław Czarnek and Jacek Sasin, along with MEPs Tobiasz Bocheński and Patryk Jaki. They are also supported by Mariusz Błaszczak, Elżbieta Witek, and Beata Szydło.
The faction supporting Morawiecki, known as the “harcerze” (scouts), includes Michał Dworczyk, Janusz Cieszyński, Piotr Müller, Waldemar Buda, and Marcin Horała.
Emergency Meeting Convened, Names Circulate
Kaczyński called an emergency meeting of PiS authorities for Thursday, April 16th, at 1 PM at the party headquarters on Nowogrodzka Street. The meeting was prompted by the difficult financial situation of the grouping and the internal conflict.
Wirtualna Polska published a list of politicians reportedly joining “Rozwój Plus,” including Waldemar Buda, Janusz Cieszyński, Michał Dworczyk, Marcin Horała, Paweł Jabłoński, Łukasz Kmita, Anna Kwiecień, Piotr Müller, Łukasz Schreiber, Krzysztof Szczucki, Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk, and Ryszard Terlecki.
