Following Poland’s lack of points from Ukraine at Eurovision, Law and Justice (PiS) officials are questioning the status of bilateral relations and suggesting that Kyiv should better appreciate Polish aid.
Political reactions to voting patterns
When asked if Ukrainians conspired against Poland during the Eurovision final, MEP Bocheński stated that there are no coincidences, adding that the outcome should give people pause. He noted that while Poland received maximum points from Germany and many from Austria, receiving zero from Ukraine and Israel indicates a shift in relations.
Przemysław Czarnek, the PiS candidate for prime minister, echoed these sentiments. He suggested that Ukrainians should consider whether they should appreciate Poland’s pivotal role in maintaining their independence and providing early war-time support.
Broader criticism and contest details
Konfederacja MP Bartłomiej Pejo also joined the critique, claiming that Ukraine is prioritizing its own interests at Poland’s expense. The controversy follows the Eurovision results, where Bulgaria placed first with 516 points, followed by Israel and Romania.
The voting process revealed a disconnect between the Polish jury and the public. While the Polish jury awarded 12 points to Israel and only one to Ukraine, Polish viewers awarded their maximum 12 points to Ukraine. Neither the Ukrainian jury nor the Israeli jury awarded any points to Poland.
