Multi-Agency Operation Dismantles Criminal Network
A multi-year investigation by the Metropolitan Police’s Motor Vehicle Crime Unit, in collaboration with the National Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw, has successfully targeted a criminal group. All members have been apprehended and formally charged with 112 counts of burglary, theft, and fencing.
The coordinated operation involved the Metropolitan Police, regional units in Gdańsk, the Central Counter-Terrorist Police Unit (CPKP BOA), and the Nadbużański Border Guard. Executed under the direction of the Mazovian Department of the National Prosecutor’s Office, the raids took place across the capital, Lublin, and Pomeranian garrisons.
Scope of Criminal Activity
The investigation focused on individuals specializing in the theft of cars, the stripping of vehicle parts, and the systematic theft of car wheels across Poland and Germany. Authorities also targeted the fencing of stolen parts obtained through illegal dismantling.
Police successfully detained 12 primary suspects during the operation. Following these arrests, investigators coordinated with penal institutions to bring in additional suspects already serving sentences for unrelated crimes, allowing for the filing of further charges related to the vehicle theft ring.
Assets Seized and Judicial Rulings
To secure potential future penalties, police confiscated a Toyota Corolla valued at 110,000 PLN, alongside 87,000 PLN, 6,000 EUR, and 6,000 GBP in cash. A luxury watch and various pieces of jewelry were also seized as evidence.
The District Court for Warsaw approved the prosecution’s request for temporary detention, placing 13 suspects in three-month custody to prevent interference with the ongoing proceedings. Other individuals involved in the case have been placed under mandatory police supervision.
