75-Year-Old Patient Attacks Staff and Demolishes Szczecin Hospital ER

On Friday, June 12, an elderly patient transported by ambulance to the University Clinical Hospital No. 1 in Szczecin attacked a paramedic and destroyed critical medical equipment following a sudden behavioral episode.

The Incident in the Emergency Department

The event occurred at the Hospital Emergency Department (SOR) of the Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin around 9:00 PM. A 75-year-old patient, brought in by ambulance for a health emergency, experienced a sudden loss of consciousness followed by an aggressive outburst.

Hospital spokesperson Magdalena Knop stated that the man attacked a paramedic and, once freed, proceeded to demolish a treatment room, causing extensive damage to vital medical machinery.

Devastation of Critical Medical Infrastructure

According to Kurier Szczeciński, the damage includes a critical parameter analyzer, five infusion pumps with charging stations, four computer workstations, a resuscitation cart, and various diagnostic tools. The exact financial cost of these damages is currently being assessed.

Hospital staff emphasized that the true loss is not the equipment itself, but the temporary reduction in their capacity to provide life-saving care. The department remains partially incapacitated, limiting its ability to treat the most severely ill patients.

Addressing Public Misconceptions

In response to online speculation that the incident resulted from long wait times or staff negligence, the hospital clarified that the patient was treated immediately upon arrival. Officials stressed that aggressive episodes can occur suddenly due to neurological or metabolic disturbances, even in patients who initially appear calm.

The hospital noted that while the scale of this physical destruction is unusual, verbal and physical aggression against medical personnel in the ER has become an alarmingly frequent reality for their staff.
