15-Year Sentence for Fatal Wisłostrada Crash; Prosecutors Seek Appeal

Following the July 2025 collision that killed a father and his 13-year-old son, a Warsaw court has sentenced the driver to 15 years in prison, with the prosecutor’s office now planning an appeal.

Verdict and Planned Appeal

The driver responsible for the July 11, 2025, accident on Wybrzeże Gdyńskie has been sentenced to a cumulative 15 years in prison. Prosecutors, who had requested a 19-year sentence, announced through the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office that they intend to appeal the verdict.

Details of the Fatal Collision

The incident occurred on the night of July 10-11 on the Wisłostrada artery. According to the Metropolitan Police, the driver of an Opel Vectra crossed into the oncoming lane, causing a head-on collision with a motorcycle and an Audi. A 45-year-old motorcyclist and his 13-year-old son died from their injuries.

Charges Against Driver and Passenger

Investigators determined that the vehicle was driven by Dawid F., with Mariusz P. as his passenger; both fled the scene on foot. Dawid F., who confessed to the crimes, was charged with intentional traffic safety violations and driving despite a ban, which carried a potential 20-year sentence. He was traveling at 108 km/h at the time of the crash.

Criminal Records and Lack of Assistance

Mariusz P. was charged with failing to provide assistance to the accident victims, a charge he denied. Both men had prior criminal records: Dawid F. for drunk driving and Mariusz P. for offenses against family and care.
