Three men aged 18 to 20 have been arrested and charged with attempted murder after a 17-year-old celebrating his birthday was doused in petrol and set on fire in Jaworzno.
Attack in Jaworzno
The incident occurred in the late afternoon on August 7 in the area of Pawia Street. According to the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jaworzno, during a gathering of a group of teenagers, a 17-year-old boy was likely doused in petrol and set on fire.
Hospitalization and Arrests
Police report that the teenager managed to reach his home on his own, prompting his concerned mother to call an ambulance and the police. The 17-year-old was transported to the hospital, where it was discovered that he suffered burns covering nearly half of his entire body and currently remains in a pharmacological coma.
Officers detained three men aged 18 to 20. The prosecutor charged them with attempted murder, and the court decided on a three-month temporary arrest for the suspects, who face up to life imprisonment.
Ongoing Investigation
Police emphasize that the case is developing as investigators establish the detailed circumstances of the event. An important aspect of the further proceedings will be questioning the victim, which is currently impossible due to his health condition.
Staff Sergeant Anna Kacprzak of the Jaworzno police informed Gazeta.pl that the young men know each other, and it is known that the 17-year-old was having his birthday on the day of the incident.
Prosecutor Jakub Seweryn from the press team of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Sosnowiec confirmed to Gazeta.pl that determining the exact course of the situation is underway, though the prosecutor’s office is withholding details for the good of the proceedings.
