Trump Declares End of Iran Truce: “They Are Sick People”

During a NATO summit in Ankara, President Donald Trump declared the ceasefire with Iran over, labeling the leadership “sick,” “deceitful,” and “brutal” following a surge of hostilities in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Collapse of the Ceasefire

Speaking alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, President Trump formally announced that the truce with Iran is finished. He characterized the Iranian leadership as “scum” and “sick people,” asserting that they are both deceitful and violent.

Trump’s remarks follow reports that Iran has acted as a “dishonest player” by targeting merchant vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. CNN reported that the decision comes amid mounting evidence of Iranian aggression against international shipping lanes.

Attacks on Maritime and Military Targets

The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that a tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile on July 6, approximately 8 nautical miles east of Limah, Oman. No casualties were reported, though the vessel sustained damage.

In response to the targeting of three commercial ships, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) launched strikes against more than 80 targets within Iran, citing a dangerous violation of the ceasefire and a threat to the freedom of navigation.

Escalating Regional Confrontation

Iranian media reported explosions in Bandar Abbas, Sirik, and Qeshm Island, noting damage to a commercial port where an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) naval base is located. Tehran has warned that its response to U.S. strikes will be crushing.

The IRGC claimed responsibility for attacking 85 strategic U.S. military sites, including the Fifth Fleet base in Bahrain and a Kuwaiti airfield used by American forces. They also announced the downing of a U.S. MQ-9 drone, insisting that Iran will not permit any interference in its management of the Strait of Hormuz.
