41-Year-Old Under Police Supervision After Arson Spree in Praga

Following a coordinated effort by Warsaw police, a 41-year-old man has been charged with setting fire to multiple trash enclosures across the Praga Północ district, causing 50,000 PLN in damages.

The Arrest and Initial Investigation

On June 21, around 7:00 PM, police responded to reports of a trash shelter fire on Kawęczyńska Street. Acting on descriptions provided by a witness, officers from the Capital Police Headquarters’ Intelligence and Patrol Department located two men, aged 49 and 41, on Kijowska Street. Breathalyzer tests confirmed both were intoxicated, with blood alcohol levels of 2.5 and 1.7 per mille respectively.

Scope of Property Damage

While the suspects sobered up in custody, investigators determined that the fires were not isolated incidents. Additional arson attacks were discovered at trash enclosures on Wiosenna, Al. Tysiąclecia, Korsaka, Wołomińska, and Siedlecka streets. Police conducted site inspections and secured CCTV footage as part of the evidence gathering process.

Charges and Legal Consequences

A representative from the affected housing cooperative estimated total property losses at 50,000 PLN. Consequently, the 41-year-old suspect was brought to the Warsaw-Praga North District Prosecutor’s Office to face charges of property destruction. The prosecutor has placed the suspect under police supervision, and he now faces a potential sentence of up to five years in prison.
