Motion for Immunity Waiver
The National Prosecutor’s Office is set to submit a formal request to the Speaker of the Sejm on Friday to strip Deputy Justice Minister Arkadiusz Myrcha of his parliamentary immunity. Spokesperson prosecutor Anna Adamiak confirmed that the move follows allegations regarding the violation of election silence.
Allegations of Election Silence Violation
The case centers on a social media post published on Arkadiusz Myrcha’s accounts during the election silence period in May 2025, which encouraged followers to vote for a specific candidate. The motion follows an official report filed by Law and Justice (PiS) MP Dariusz Matecki.
Legal Context and Potential Penalties
Although Myrcha deleted the post and issued an apology, the prosecutor’s office has initiated an investigation. Under current electoral law, active campaigning during the silence period—which lasted from May 16 until polls closed on May 18, 2025—is strictly prohibited and punishable by a fine of up to one million zlotys.
