Drift Attempt Ends in Wrecked BMW M8: Driver Fined and License Suspended

On Saturday, July 11, around 11:00 PM, a driver of a BMW M8 Competition lost control while attempting to drift on Prosta Street in Warsaw, colliding with safety barriers and a tram pole.

The Incident on Prosta Street

The collision occurred late Saturday night on Warsaw’s Wola district, near the intersection of Prosta and Żelazna streets. A sports BMW M8 Competition lost traction during a drift maneuver on a wet road surface, resulting in a high-impact collision with municipal infrastructure.

While the crash appeared severe, there were no pedestrians in the vicinity at the time. The driver, a Ukrainian national, did not sustain injuries requiring hospitalization, and no other individuals were harmed during the event.

Damage Assessment and Traffic Impact

The BMW M8, valued at approximately one million PLN, sustained significant damage, particularly to its front end. The force of the impact necessitated an inspection of the tram pole and the removal of damaged safety barriers by Warsaw Tramway personnel.

During the emergency response, one lane heading toward Rondo Daszyńskiego was blocked to allow traffic police and technical teams to conduct their investigation and site assessment.

Legal Consequences and Road Safety Warnings

The driver was found to be sober but was issued a 5,000 PLN fine for his actions. Authorities also suspended his driving license for three months due to the dangerous nature of performing drifts on public roads.

Police have reiterated that intentionally inducing a slide on public streets creates extreme danger for everyone involved. They emphasize that wet road conditions significantly reduce tire grip and extend braking distances, making such stunts particularly hazardous.
