US Strikes Targets in Iran as Tehran Launches Retaliatory Operations

The US military launched strikes on dozens of Iranian targets to protect shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz, triggering a rapid and multi-front retaliation by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.

US Military Strikes in the Strait of Hormuz

CENTCOM reported striking dozens of targets across multiple locations using precision ammunition to limit Iran’s ability to attack foreign vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. The operation destroyed Iranian air defense systems, coastal radar stations, missile installations, drones, and small boats.

The US military utilized fighter jets, warships, and loitering munitions for the first time in this operation. CENTCOM emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade and is not under Iranian control.

Iranian Retaliatory Attacks

The deputy governor of Khuzestan province stated that a US strike on an agricultural water pumping station in Mahshahr resulted in one death and four injuries. In response, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched at least three waves of strikes throughout the region.

In Jordan, drone and missile attacks on the Prince Hassan air base ignited fuel and ammunition depots. Iranian forces also struck the Sheikh Isa air base in Bahrain, damaging helicopter maintenance workshops, a P-8 aircraft hangar, and a US drone command center.

Infrastructure Damage and Regional Closure

The third phase of the Iranian offensive targeted Kuwait, where the IRGC claimed to have destroyed fuel tanks and Patriot air defense systems at the Ali al-Salem air base, as well as a strategic FPS radar system at the Ahmed al-Jaber air base.

Amid the escalation, the IRGC announced on Sunday that the Strait of Hormuz is closed until further notice. Iranian forces intercepted two vessels, accusing them of illegal navigation and disabling their tracking systems.
