Joanna Mucha Criticizes Szymon Hołownia and Polska 2050 Split

Former Polska 2050 member Joanna Mucha expressed disappointment with party leader Szymon Hołownia in a July 13 TVN24 interview, claiming the party failed to consolidate its position as a central political force.

Mucha’s critique of party leadership

Joanna Mucha, now an independent MP, stated on the TVN24 program “Tak jest” that she regrets the unfulfilled potential of Polska 2050. She asserted that the party should have effectively anchored the center of the Polish political scene.

Mucha openly criticized Szymon Hołownia, noting that he operated under the belief that he knew best—a leadership style she warned rarely leads to positive outcomes. She added that while the party had the potential to be a pro-reformist movement, it fell short of those goals.

Political fragmentation and internal friction

Reflecting on the state of the party, Mucha dismissed the idea that political groups grow through division, arguing that current entities remain on the verge of further fractures. She observed that both Polska 2050 and the newly formed Unia Centrum face continued instability.

The emergence of Unia Centrum

Climate and Environment Minister Paulina Hennig-Kloska has launched a new party, Unia Centrum, alongside a group of parliamentarians who defected from Polska 2050. This split followed Hennig-Kloska’s unsuccessful bid for the party leadership against Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz.

Hennig-Kloska claims her new party will provide a strong foundation for the October 15 coalition. She emphasized that the group intends to prioritize economic development and environmental protection, drawing on values associated with post-1989 Poland.
