Warsaw’s New Deputy Mayors Appointed Following Resignations

Following the resignation of two top officials amid a healthcare scandal, Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski has appointed Magdalena Młochowska and Izabela Marcewicz-Jendrysik as his new deputy mayors of Warsaw.

New leadership appointments

Magdalena Młochowska, who has worked at City Hall since 2016, will oversee environmental protection, climate policy, waste management, green space development, and housing policy. She previously collaborated with Rafał Trzaskowski at the Ministry of Administration and Digitalization.

Izabela Marcewicz-Jendrysik, an economist and healthcare manager who formerly led the Kopernik Medical Care Center, will be responsible for healthcare policy, hospital oversight, and social policy. She emphasized that her priority remains the interest of patients.

Resignations following hospital scandals

Mayor Trzaskowski announced the resignations of deputy mayors Aldona Machnowska-Góra and Renata Kaznowska on July 3. The decision follows a series of reports regarding serious irregularities at the Południowy Hospital.

Trzaskowski noted that while he is not pre-judging individual guilt, public expectations and responsibilities require higher standards. He thanked both outgoing officials for their years of service and loyalty to the city.

Irregularities at Południowy Hospital

The dismissals stem from allegations concerning the hospital’s morgue, where the head allegedly promoted a private funeral business, shared images of remains on social media, and rented the morgue for film sets. Reports also alleged illegal sales of bodies and services.

Additional scrutiny has been placed on Dr. Dawid Kacprzyk, an anesthesiology resident and local councilor, following reports of high earnings and claims that Coalition of the Obywatelska (KO) politicians were granted preferential access to medical care at the facility. Audits of these matters are currently underway.
