Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz criticized the move on X, labeling the partners as opportunists. He argued that the alliance signals a shift in the party’s direction, asserting that “PiS now has the face of Braun,” referencing Marek Woch’s prior political associations.
Right-Wing and Opposition Reaction
Confederation leader Sławomir Mentzen mocked the partnership, comparing it to acquiring scrap parts for a vintage car. Meanwhile, KO Euro-deputy Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz accused Kaczyński of expanding a pro-Russian pact, citing Woch’s past cooperation with sanctioned individuals. Other figures, including Roman Giertych and journalists like Jakub Majmurek, sarcastically suggested the alliance signals a major political shift.
Context of the Right-Wing Senate Pact
Marek Woch had discussed the concept of a right-wing pact as early as October of last year alongside Grzegorz Braun. Kaczyński has frequently advocated for uniting the “patriotic camp,” which he defines as including PiS and three wings of the Confederation movement. Despite these efforts, past attempts to form coalitions have faced public friction and mutual criticism between PiS and Confederation members.

Reports from mid-2025 indicated that PiS sought a coalition with the Confederation, though the latter dismissed the proposals as political maneuvering. Discussions at the end of last year suggested that some politicians within both camps viewed Karol Nawrocki as a potential patron for a right-wing Senate pact, while ruling out formal re-integration with Grzegorz Braun’s specific faction.
