Kaczyński and Morawiecki: Another Meeting Pending Amid Internal PiS Friction

Following a party-wide directive to disband political associations, PiS spokesperson Rafał Bochenek confirmed that while a new meeting between Jarosław Kaczyński and Mateusz Morawiecki is possible, none is currently scheduled.

Party Directive Against Internal Associations

On Wednesday, July 15, the PiS leadership issued a resolution requiring party members to withdraw from associations engaged in political activity within the party structure. The measure specifically targets groups such as Mateusz Morawiecki’s “Rozwój Plus” and Jacek Sasin’s “Po pierwsze Polska.”

Spokesperson Rafał Bochenek stated that members failing to comply with the directive by July 23 face expulsion proceedings via the Political Committee. While Sasin has already complied, members of Morawiecki’s association maintain they have no intention of leaving the party.

Status of the Conflict

Bochenek noted that a previous meeting between Kaczyński and Morawiecki held on Friday did not resolve the core dispute. Morawiecki subsequently declared his ongoing loyalty to the party, dismissing speculation of a divide between him and the chairman.

As of Friday, July 17, approximately 130 parliamentarians had submitted declarations confirming their withdrawal from such associations. Despite this, associates of the former prime minister remain in flux, with sources estimating that between 39 and 45 lawmakers are linked to the “Rozwój Plus” initiative.

Future Diplomatic Efforts

The possibility of a follow-up discussion remains open. European Parliament member Piotr Muller expressed hope for further dialogue, though he confirmed that no specific date or time has been finalized for another summit between the two leaders.
