Human Remains Discovered in Lisiny Forest Linked to Missing Jowita Zielińska

Walkers discovered human remains in a forest in Lisiny, Poland, on July 18, which investigators believe, with high probability, belong to Jowita Zielińska, who went missing after work on July 6.

Discovery of Remains

On July 18, walkers reported finding human remains in a forest in Lisiny, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship. A prosecutor from Rypin and forensic experts from the Bydgoszcz police department examined the scene for several hours.

The remains were recovered and transferred for an autopsy in Bydgoszcz, where genetic material will be collected for DNA testing to confirm the identity. Officials noted that the site was located just 300 meters from Zielińska’s residence.

Investigation and Evidence

Małgorzata Kręcicka, spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Włocławek, stated that while formal results are pending, evidence strongly suggests the remains belong to the missing woman. Prosecutors have withheld further details to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

A significant piece of evidence found at the scene includes a necklace engraved with the name of Zielińska’s late husband, a detail confirmed by the prosecutor’s office.

Timeline of the Disappearance

Jowita Zielińska was last seen on July 6, 2024, cycling home from her job at a meat shop in Rypin. Surveillance footage captured her entering the forest area, after which she disappeared. Despite extensive searches by police, firefighters, and local residents, no trace of her was found at the time.

Discovery of the Bicycle

On August 10, 2024, a mushroom picker found Zielińska’s bicycle in a forest near the village of Wierzchowiska, approximately four kilometers from where she was last seen. Authorities are investigating whether the bicycle was overlooked during the initial search or if it was moved to the location later.
