Security Alert on Warsaw Metro Line M1 After Backpack Incident and Smoke Reports

Authorities have evacuated four Metro Line M1 stations in Warsaw following reports of an unattended backpack thrown onto the tracks at Centrum station and simultaneous smoke at Dworzec Gdański.

Security Breach at Centrum Station

At approximately 4:45 PM, an unidentified individual threw a backpack onto the Metro tracks at the Centrum station before fleeing the scene. Police pyrotechnicians have been deployed to the site to conduct a formal inspection of the object.

Emergency Operations and Evacuations

Simultaneously, reports of smoke at the Dworzec Gdański station triggered an intervention by three fire brigade units. To ensure passenger safety, authorities ordered the immediate evacuation of four stations: Dworzec Gdański, Ratusz Arsenał, Świętokrzyska, and Centrum.

Metro Network Disruptions

The incidents have severely impacted M1 line operations. Trains are currently restricted to two loops: Kabaty to Politechnika and Młociny to Dworzec Gdański. The central section, including Centrum, Świętokrzyska, and Ratusz-Arsenał, remains closed to traffic.

Alternative Transport and Ongoing Investigation

A replacement “Z” bus line has been established to connect Plac Wilsona to Metro Politechnika via the city center. Police are actively searching for the perpetrator, and passengers are advised to follow all instructions from security personnel until the situation is resolved.
