PiS Civil War Intensifies as Internal Scrutiny Turns Personal

As the deadline for party members to abandon the “Rozwój Plus” association nears, tensions within Law and Justice (PiS) have escalated into mutual accusations and the aggressive digging for compromising information.

The Brink of a Split

Internal conflict within PiS is deepening as the July 22 midnight deadline approaches for members to renounce their association memberships. Despite party leadership’s ultimatum, members of the “Rozwój Plus” group, including MPs Łukasz Kmita and Krzysztof Szczucki, insist they will not dissolve their organization or sign declarations of withdrawal.

While reports suggest that Jarosław Kaczyński may consider suspending dissenting members to avoid an immediate total fracture, sources indicate that the atmosphere has soured significantly. Party officials have begun searching for “dirt” on internal rivals, with reports of personal smears and investigations into private family matters appearing in internal communications.

Morawiecki’s Defense of the Association

Former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki issued a ten-minute video statement maintaining that his association was created to protect the legacy of his government and broaden the party’s support base. He stressed that PiS must not become an insular organization and reaffirmed his commitment to staying within the party ranks.

Despite public posturing, the divide remains stark. Party spokesperson Rafał Bochenek has characterized the association’s activities as destructive to party unity and resource management. While some back-channel discussions regarding the ultimatum are reportedly occurring, no direct breakthrough has been reached between Kaczyński and Morawiecki.

Calculating the Allegiances

Political analysts estimate that Morawiecki currently commands between 20 and 25 core allies within the parliamentary club. The party leadership is closely monitoring the stance of “wavering” figures, most notably Daniel Obajtek, as the threat of a potential domino effect looms over the leadership’s decision-making process.

Jarosław Kaczyński has publicly called for a “breath of fresh air,” reminding his colleagues that the political opposition remains their primary adversary. However, party insiders cited by Onet suggest that emotions have reached a point where a formal split may now be inevitable within the coming months.
