84-Year-Old Woman Fighting for Her Life After Being Run Over by Truck in Ursynów

Today, July 21, around 1:40 PM on Pasaż Ursynowski Street, an 84-year-old pedestrian was struck and seriously injured by a DAF truck, leaving her in critical condition.

Construction Work and Traffic Disruption

Pasaż Ursynowski Street is currently undergoing renovations, primarily involving sidewalks, which has increased the presence of heavy equipment and construction trucks in the area. The vicinity of building number 9 is now a construction site, causing disruptions to both pedestrian and vehicular traffic along the street.

Unclear Circumstances at a Suggested Crossing

The DAF truck driver emptied the contents of the dump truck in a designated area and then moved forward. It remains unclear how the 84-year-old woman, who was accompanied by a caretaker, ended up in front of the vehicle’s cab, though she was most likely crossing the roadway at what is known as a suggested crossing.

A suggested crossing is a location technically adapted for pedestrians to cross the road that is not a marked pedestrian crossing, meaning pedestrians do not have the right-of-way and may only enter the road after ensuring it is safe.

Accident Mechanics and Hospitalization

The 84-year-old ended up under the right front wheel of the truck, was knocked down, and the vehicle subsequently ran over her legs with its remaining axles, with the driver only realizing the accident occurred after checking his rearview mirror.

Emergency medical services were called to the scene, provided aid to the severely injured woman, and immediately transported her to the hospital, where her condition is very serious.
