Defense Minister Targets Morawiecki’s Ambitions and Slams PiS Figures as Political Troglodytes

PiS Leadership Issues Ultimatum Over Political Associations

Last Wednesday, July 15, the PiS leadership issued a resolution obligating its members—under threat of exclusion from the party—to withdraw from associations conducting political activities within the party. This move targets initiatives such as Mateusz Morawiecki’s “Rozwój Plus” and MP Jacek Sasin’s “Po pierwsze Polska.”

The deadline for members to make their decision expires on Thursday, July 23. Sasin announced as early as Wednesday that his block had ceased operations, while Morawiecki declared his intention to remain in PiS while continuing to develop his association to support an ambitious Poland, stirring internal disputes and mutual grievances.

Kosiniak-Kamysz Evaluates Morawiecki’s Leadership Intentions

Appearing on TVN24’s “Jeden na Jeden” program, Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz expressed his suspicion that the former prime minister will not be expelled from PiS. He noted that Morawiecki is striving to become the leader of PiS rather than getting expelled or leaving the party voluntarily.

On Friday, July 17, members of Morawiecki’s association sent a letter to the PiS leader emphasizing their goal of party unity and reaching out to groups that have drifted away in recent years. The document was signed by 45 PiS politicians, including MPs, senators, and members of the European Parliament. Additionally, party spokesperson Rafał Bochenek reported a meeting between Kaczyński and Morawiecki on Friday, which did not yield a final resolution.

Party Declarations and Internal Friction

Kaczyński appealed to PiS politicians for calm, emphasizing that the enemy lies elsewhere. According to information close to the party leadership, approximately 130 PiS parliamentarians submitted declarations of non-membership in such associations by Friday.

In a statement on Tuesday, July 21, former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki assured that he is a member of PiS and wishes to remain in the patriotic camp, calling for the ability to distinguish healthy competition from civil war.

Defense Minister Compares Morawiecki to Czarnek’s Circle

Comparing the factions within PiS, Defense Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that he holds a better opinion of Morawiecki than of Przemysław Czarnek’s environment, noting that Morawiecki avoids making foolish remarks regarding support for Ukraine.

Kosiniak-Kamysz recalled participating in a security debate with the former prime minister in April and praised their ability to engage in a substantive discussion despite representing different political backgrounds. Conversely, he condemned Czarnek’s circle, labeling them as political troglodytes leading Poland astray.

Exclusion of Electoral Coalition and Leadership Poll

The defense minister explicitly ruled out running in a joint election coalition with a potential party formed by Morawiecki, stating that it is impossible to share a single electoral list with individuals who constantly attack the government. Meanwhile, a Pollster Research Institute survey conducted for “Super Express” and reported by Gazeta.pl indicates that Mateusz Morawiecki is the most frequently cited potential successor to Jarosław Kaczyński as PiS leader.
