Ukrainian Citizen Facing Deportation After Throwing Backpack Onto Warsaw Metro Tracks

A 38-year-old Ukrainian citizen was detained in Warsaw after throwing a backpack onto the metro tracks at Centrum station, prompting immediate police intervention and a subsequent deportation order.

Incident at Centrum Station

The situation took place on Monday, July 20, at the Centrum station. A man walking along the platform threw a backpack onto the tracks and fled. The package landed in the middle of the station, positioned between the first and second tracks and the columns supporting the ceiling.

At 5:50 PM, the man—who turned out to be a 38-year-old Ukrainian citizen—was detained on a downtown street by officers from the Warsaw prevention unit. Junior Aspirant Jakub Pacyniak, spokesperson for the downtown police command, told \”Wyborcza\” that various scenarios were considered, but there was no indication of any external commission, emphasizing that authorities did not want to cause unnecessary alarm among residents.

Deportation and Entry Ban

Police handed the man over to the Border Guard. It was established that the 38-year-old did not act on anyone’s orders, and the act was treated as hooliganism classified as an offense. According to RMF 24, the Border Guard Commander has already decided to expel the man from Poland.

The next step involves transporting the perpetrator of the incident to the Polish-Ukrainian border and handing him over to Ukrainian border guards. Additionally, the 38-year-old received a 10-year ban on entering Poland and the Schengen area.

Prior Hooligan Incidents in Warsaw Metro

This is another act of hooliganism committed by a foreigner in the Warsaw metro system. In June, a 22-year-old Frenchman jumped onto the platform, and the court decided on a three-month detention after he refused to answer questions or explain why he breached security protecting technical infrastructure.

Furthermore, in February, a group of Spanish nationals vandalized a train at the Wawrzyszew station.
