President Nawrocki Sets Date for Constitutional Tribunal Judge’s Oath Amid Upcoming Judicial Appointments

President Karol Nawrocki will receive the oath of office from Constitutional Tribunal judge Sławomir Patyra on Tuesday, July 28, alongside appointing new Supreme Court judges and court assessors.

Oath of Office Set for Constitutional Tribunal Judge

Head of the Chancellery of the President Zbigniew Bogucki announced on Wednesday that on Tuesday, July 28, President Karol Nawrocki will receive the oath from Sławomir Patyra, who was elected by the Sejm in June as a judge of the Constitutional Tribunal.

Bogucki wrote on the platform X that the president will act pursuant to Article 4, paragraph 1 of the Act on the Status of Judges of the Constitutional Tribunal.

Additional Supreme Court and Assessor Appointments

The head of the Chancellery of the President added that the president will hand over appointments to four new Supreme Court judges on the same day.

Bogucki also stated that next week the president plans to appoint 211 district court assessors and 18 provincial administrative court assessors.

Background on Patyra’s Election and Appeals

In June of this year, the Sejm elected Sławomir Patyra to replace judge Andrzej Zielonacki, whose nine-year term was ending. At the beginning of July, Patyra sent a letter to President Nawrocki requesting the scheduling of his oath date to signal his readiness to establish an employment relationship at the Tribunal, followed by a subsequent letter.

A week prior, Marshal of the Sejm Włodzimierz Czarzasty reported sending a letter to the president appealing for immediate action to enable Patyra to assume the mandate of a Constitutional Tribunal judge.
