Lukashenka Regime Warns of Alleged Attack Plot in Poland After Meeting at Foreign Ministry

The Belarusian state news agency reports that Poland’s charge d’affaires in Minsk received data regarding an alleged terrorist plot directed against targets inside Poland.

According to the Center for Europe portal (formerly Belsat), state agency BelTA reported that on July 23 during a meeting at the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Poland’s charge d’affaires Krzysztof Ożanna received data concerning alleged preparations for an attack on Polish territory. The information reportedly reached the ministry through Belarusian law enforcement agencies.

Minsk’s message claims that the person planning the attack is someone currently residing in Poland who was previously convicted in Belarus, and whose additional protection and residence permit were recently revoked by Polish authorities. The alleged motive is revenge against a female activist with Belarusian citizenship living in Poland, with the attack targeted at her minor children.

“The Polish representative was also informed that additional information on this matter, if necessary and as it becomes available, will be transmitted through cooperation channels between the competent authorities of both countries,” BelTA reports.

Lack of Specifics and Credibility Doubts

The Center for Europe points out that the communication lacks any concrete details—there is neither the identity of the alleged attacker nor the indication of a potential victim. The reference to a “series of articles of the Penal Code” under which he was allegedly previously convicted also remains unclear. The portal emphasizes that such phrasing is typical in Belarus for verdicts issued against regime opponents, raising suspicions about the true nature of the case.

An anonymous female Belarusian activist living in Poland, speaking to the Center for Europe, assessed that the statement may aim to build distrust in Poland toward opposition Belarusians.

Polish Services Approach Threats Seriously

Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for the minister-coordinator of special services, when asked by PAP about the Belarusian MFA information, replied that Polish services treat all information about potential threats with due seriousness and firmness.

“I do not comment on media reports on this subject. I assure you, however, that Polish services never trivialize any disturbing signal and treat all information about potential threats with due seriousness and firmness. It is also natural that in such cases no special services in the world, at such a stage, inform whether and, if so, what steps they are taking,” Dobrzyński said.

We contacted the spokesperson for the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding this matter. The ministry has not yet addressed the issue.
