Kaczyński on PiS Splintering: Morawiecki Proposed a Party Division and I Do Not Feel Guilty

PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński stated that Mateusz Morawiecki previously proposed a party division and defended the leadership’s ultimatum following the departure of dozens of lawmakers over association memberships.

Morawiecki Proposed Party Division

– Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki resigned, emphasized PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński, commenting on the party split. Mateusz Morawiecki previously proposed a division to me, and what he is saying at the moment surprises me a bit. He said it face to face, but he also said it later, there were witnesses, Kaczyński noted.

The PiS president revealed that during the first of three conversations about associations, Morawiecki proposed a party division and admitted that the choice of Czarnek as the party’s candidate for prime minister hit Morawiecki very hard.

Ultimatum and Departures

On Thursday, July 23 at midnight, the deadline of the PiS leadership’s ultimatum for the party’s parliamentarians to submit a declaration of non-membership in associations expired, under threat of exclusion from the party. The matter concerned primarily members of the Rozwój Plus association, founded by former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

PiS President Jarosław Kaczyński stated on Friday, July 24, that thirty-odd MPs resigned their membership in PiS, adding that next Tuesday, July 28, the PiS Political Committee will take note of this fact. The PiS chief noted that every party parliamentarian knew what not signing the declaration entailed.

Kaczyński Denies Guilt

Kaczyński emphasized on wPolsce24 that he does not want to fuel arguments with the former prime minister, assessing that even at the moment of the association’s creation, one could suspect it was about smashing the party. He added that all members of Rozwój Plus could have realized its goals within the party.

Discipline and Loyalty Pledges

The PiS president also referred to the statements regarding associations called loyalty pledges, noting that if there were authoritarianism in PiS, the group would have been removed long ago. He stressed that signing the document was not meant to be humiliating for anyone.

We wanted to maintain discipline and equality in the party, Kaczyński said, explaining that everyone including himself signs a simple document stating they do not operate in political associations, repeating the statute.

Future of the Right and Relations

Kaczyński emphasized that the process of disintegration on the right is deepening and there is no certainty of the right’s victory over the current government, commenting on a letter addressed to him by Morawiecki that contained unacceptable formulations.

Kaczyński also addressed relations between Morawiecki and Przemysław Czarnek, stating that the PiS candidate for prime minister is a man prone to cooperation and well-understood agreement, and assessed that Mateusz Morawiecki was very much mistaken here.
