Ultimatum and PiS Leadership Decision
Last Thursday at midnight marked the deadline for the ultimatum set by the PiS leadership for the party’s parliamentarians to submit declarations confirming they do not belong to associations conducting “political” activities, under penalty of exclusion from the party. The measure primarily targeted Morawiecki’s Rozw贸j Plus association.
On Friday, PiS leader Jaros艂aw Kaczy艅ski announced that a group of party politicians had resigned from membership knowing the consequences of not signing. Kaczy艅ski argued that they did not want to part ways in animosity or negative feelings, noting that things simply turned out that way. On Tuesday at 5:00 PM, the PiS Political Committee is set to approve the decision.
Morawiecki: Founding a Club This Week Is Highly Probable
On Monday, former Prime Minister Morawiecki announced on Kana艂 Zero that he called a meeting of MPs and parliamentarians belonging to the Rozw贸j Plus association for Tuesday at 8:00 PM. He described it as a long, interesting, important, and turbulent meeting, covering substantive, programmatic, conceptual, and operational matters.
The former prime minister stated that if they are expelled from the party and the club, they will establish their own club. When asked if this would happen this week, he replied that it is highly probable. Morawiecki also said that Rozw贸j Plus will likely be the working name of the club, and when asked if he will become its leader, he answered that it is probably so, though he will also submit this to discussion.
He emphasized that the most important thing is to properly constitute themselves and discuss the action plan leading up to the elections, focusing on how to convince Poles that a conservative, identity-driven, patriotic, and center-right offering is worth paying attention to.
Internal Departures from the Association
Following the PiS leader’s Friday statement, Morawiecki reported that his circle includes 40 MPs, a senator, and three Members of the European Parliament. Politicians associated with Rozw贸j Plus also stressed that they did not resign from PiS membership, and the declaration did not concern party affiliation, with Morawiecki and his supporters claiming that intriguers want to push them out of PiS.
On Monday, politicians associated with Morawiecki’s association announced that MP Grzegorz Lorek had left it, reportedly after signing the declaration required by the PiS leadership. Earlier, PiS spokesperson Rafa艂 Bochenek wrote on platform X that Lorek had signed the statement regarding non-membership in political associations, a move Lorek later confirmed on X by quoting Lincoln about being faithful to what one considers right.
