Two Suspects Arrested and Charged Over Brutal Attack on Ukrainians in Wrocław

Two men aged 27 and 45 were arrested on Monday evening following the brutal street beating of a young Ukrainian couple in Wrocław, with prosecutors bringing initial charges.

Incident on Okulickiego Street

The incident occurred on Sunday on Okulickiego Street in Wrocław. According to Junior Commissioner Aleksandra Freus, spokesperson for the Municipal Police Headquarters in Wrocław, the victims of the beating are a 20-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man, both Ukrainian nationals. A video published on social media shows three men brutally beating the Ukrainian man and his partner, who attempted to defend him from the aggressors.

Arrests and Suspect Profiles

The men suspected of the crime, aged 27 and 45, were detained on Monday evening. According to Gazeta Wyborcza, one of them is Adam C., alias Cycu, a gangster with a prison record and a bare-knuckle boxer, while the other is a football hooligan who fights in MMA. The Minister of the Interior and Administration, Marcin Kierwiński, first announced the detention on the platform X, noting that one suspect was caught by counter-terrorists while trying to leave Wrocław.

Prosecution and Initial Charges

On Tuesday, the prosecutor’s office announced the start of procedural activities with the men at 12:00 PM. According to Wirtualna Polska, the first to be interrogated was Tomasz M., who was charged by the District Prosecutor’s Office for Wrocław Psie Pole with battery, violence motivated by national affiliation, causing injuries under 7 days, and national insults. Tomasz M. had no prior criminal record and turned himself in to the police station. The second person to be interrogated is Adam C.

Injuries and Store Queue Dispute

The police are still searching for the third perpetrator of the assault. The injured woman and man were taken to hospital by an emergency medical team, with published photos showing the woman required stitches for an ear wound. Junior Commissioner Aleksandra Freus stated earlier that the aggression began with a dispute in a store queue before the men attacked the Ukrainian citizen on the street, and a national hate crime motive has emerged in the case.
