Court Orders Detention After Initial Release
The Legionowo District Court applied a three-month temporary arrest against a 55-year-old man suspected of causing a severe accident in Skrzeszew, where a 17-year-old boy was critically injured. Days earlier, the court had rejected the prosecution’s first motion to arrest the suspect, Leszek G.
The dramatic crash occurred on July 17 around 4:00 PM on Familijna Street in Skrzeszew, Wieliszew commune. Preliminary police findings indicated that the 55-year-old Chrysler driver lost control, veered off the road, struck a parked vehicle and a garbage shelter, and then hit a 17-year-old nearby.
The teenager sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital by an Air Ambulance service helicopter after receiving aid from paramedics. The Chrysler driver was detained and found to have previously revoked driving privileges.
The man faced charges including causing an accident, exposing a person to direct danger of death or serious bodily harm, and driving despite revoked privileges. The prosecution initially requested his temporary arrest.
During a hearing on July 20, the Legionowo District Court rejected the prosecution’s first request, instead imposing police supervision and a ban on contacting witnesses. The man left the police cell to be tried from a position of freedom, with the court arguing that Leszek G. claimed he understood his mistake.
Recidivism and Citizens’ Arrest
Just a few days later on Saturday, July 25, the 55-year-old allegedly drove again despite his revoked license, this time operating a quad bike in Topolina. He was intercepted by residents who performed a citizen’s arrest and handed him over to arriving police officers.
Following this renewed detention, the man faced another charge of driving a motor vehicle despite revoked privileges. The prosecution once again filed a motion for an isolating preventive measure.
On Tuesday, July 28, the Legionowo District Court granted the investigators’ request, sending the 55-year-old to temporary detention for the next three months. The District Prosecutor’s Office in Legionowo is handling the proceedings regarding the Skrzeszew accident and other incidents involving the man.
The man had caused problems for residents and posed a real danger to road users for years, causing multiple traffic incidents while driving without a license and being released by the court each time, spreading fear among the local population.
Chronology of Incidents Involving the Driver
On March 11, 2025, in Wieliszew, a driver of a sports Nissan GT-R drove across a roundabout at Polna and Kościelna streets, mounted the sidewalk, damaged signs, lampposts, and trees, and stopped on a property fence after about 300 meters. The 54-year-old driver, who had revoked driving privileges, was taken to the hospital by helicopter with a head injury, with police noting a sudden health deterioration may have caused the loss of control.
On July 13, 2026, in Legionowo before 2:30 PM, a Nissan driver veered off the road near Jagiellonów and Parkowa streets, hitting two cars—a Renault and an Opel—before crashing into a gate and a concrete-steel property fence. Three vehicles and the fence were damaged, but no one required hospitalization, and police confirmed the driver was the same 55-year-old involved in the teen’s collision four days later.
On July 17, 2026, in Skrzeszew and Topolina, the 55-year-old driving a Chrysler crossed into the opposing lane around 4:00 PM on Familijna Street, clipped a parked Volkswagen, mounted the sidewalk, and struck the 17-year-old. The car then hit a property fence, damaging an entrance and an electrical box, leaving the critically injured teenager hospitalized in serious condition as of July 21.
Testing of the driver reportedly showed 0.15 per cent of alcohol in his blood, and police established he was driving despite revoked qualifications.
On July 25, 2026, in Topolina, the 55-year-old was once again caught driving a quad bike despite revoked privileges, prompting residents to block his path and notify authorities, leading to his arrest by responding police officers.
